Memory Candles
As you light a candle you might like to use the following prayer:
Dear God,
I light this candle as a simple public act of remembrance.
I light it with thankfulness, acknowledging the one I remember was a light in my life.
Like a candle flame, which though somehow beautiful can be easily put out,
I know only too well that an earthly life was ended and I grieve still.
Yet their memory, influence and example flickers, even blazes on in my life.
Amen.
Note: candles burn down and disappear after 20 hours so if you want to continue to remember a loved one through this means for a little longer please feel free to light a new candle.
